I first heard about Click-N-Kids from a former teacher turned homeschooler who was using it with her daughter and loved it. So, when I received an email from Click-N-Kids asking if I wanted to review both their Click-N-Read and Click-N-Spell products I was excited! My son is already reading, so he is using Click-N-Spell, and my niece knows her letter sounds and is ready to start putting them together, so she is using Click-N-Read.

Click-N-Read

My niece is really enjoying the program! It’s engaging and entertaining, and doesn’t “feel” like work to her. Each lesson takes about 20 minutes and it’s easy for her to do by herself. For kids who have enjoyed Starfall and other educational computer “games”, this will feel like familiar territory. The program also includes progress reports to allow you to keep up with how your child is doing.

Click-N-Spell

Like Click-N-Read, Click-N-Spell is a fun way to learn that my son is really enjoying. I love the progress reports and the fact that they have to type the words on the keyboard, so they’re learning where the letters are. The program had the child type the word while it is on the screen, then the word is removed and they type it again from memory. They can listen to the word as many times as they want, and hear it in a sentence. At the end of the lesson, the words (usually about 8 words at a time) are repeated and the child has to type them all again from memory. I imagine we will be using this program for several years, as there are 100 lessons that teach the 800 most commonly used words in the English language.
