Halloween doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Here are some ways to make Halloween free or very easy on the wallet:

Recipe to make free homemade fake blood and face paint – why go out and spend money on this stuff when you have the ingredients in your pantry?

Make Your Own Halloween Costumes – huge list of ideas and resources here, including no-sew costumes, animals, creatures, cardboard box costumes, costumes for couples and more.

Free Halloween Music – yikes, this was some creepy stuff. Would be great to play on your doorstep to scare the little trick or treaters. You can save the tracks to your computer by right-clicking on the file name and choose Save Link As or Save Target As.

Whether you send your kids to public school, private school or are homeschooling, there are going to be times when you’re looking for extra reinforcement on certain subjects. During the summer especially, when things like the math they learned last year is slipping away from lack of practice. There are some really excellent free printable worksheet sites available on the internet, some with thousands of free worksheets available for all sujects, including grammar, geography, math, spelling, handwriting, etc.

TLSBooks.com – free educational worksheets for early childhood through fifth grade. The worksheets are also sorted by subject, and there are new ones being added regularly.

ABCTeach.com – this site has an incredible array of resources for all ages including worksheets, puzzles, flash cards, and reading comprehension activities.

SchoolExpress.com – boasting 14,000 + worksheets, this site covers many subjects and also has sudoku puzzles and online storybooks. They also have a page where you can make your own worksheets and puzzles.

Free Potty Training Reward Charts- Dora, Diego and more!

Having recently come through the ups and downs of potty training, I know how helpful potty training charts can be. They’re even more helpful when they have fun characters on them to help encourage your child. The Potty Training Concepts site has a good selection of charts that you can print for free! They have several characters to choose from, including Dora, Diego, Thomas the Train, Disney Princesses, Cars, Blue’s Clues, as well as several generic charts designed so you can put your child’s picture on them.

They have a nice selection of printable stickers as well that would be great for printing on sticker paper, or even on regular paper and use the recipe for glue they have provided.

‘Tis the season for resurrection, not only in nature, but primarily in the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. Easter eggs are always one of the highlights of the holiday for kids, and there are lots of other fun holiday activities that make this time of year special. Here are some of my favorites this year:

And… don’t forget to have a Peep War or two: When toothpicks are inserted into the sides of two marshmallow peeps which are facing each other in a microwave. When the microwave is turned on, the peeps swell and each peep’s toothpick will poke the other peep. The peep that does not explode is the winner!

Fun National Parks Stuff for Kids

It’s time to start planning those summer vacations, and as we’re all looking for ways to cut back on our spending a bit, a visit to one of our national parks might be the perfect choice. At the National Parks Service web site on the park fun guide page there are lots of learning activities and printables to download. There are quizzes, puzzles, online stories, printable coloring books, interactive games, and lots more.

The Parks Service also has a “WebRanger” program where kids can sign up and earn a badge for working through 50 learning activities.

Free Printables to Teach Kids About Money & Get Ready for Kindergarten

I have a great site to share with you today! The Tessy & Tab Reading Club site has several wonderful looking learning kits for reading, kindergarten readiness, money management and even a plane pack to keep the kids busy while on a trip. Two of these kits have high quality printables available for download on their site! The money manager set has allowance worksheets, chore charts and some planning sheets for kids to help them progress towards their plans to spend, share and save the money they earn. The kindergarten readiness set has several printable sheets as well, among them is a set of 26 letter practice sheets.

They also have a “fun page” on the site that includes several online games and printables, including a fun match game and lots of coloring sheets.

If you’re feeling a bit more ambitious, Parents.com has a great video with some ornament craft ideas and instructions for making a super cute elf ornament with wooden beads and felt. I have made the glass ornaments with swirls acrylic paints in the past and they are just beautiful.
