santapic.JPGCan you believe December is almost here? Christmas is right around the corner, so it’s time to make your countdown calendar! Having a calendar has been a tradition in my family, and they can help make the long wait to Christmas easier for little kids. I thought this idea was so creative and easy, I can’t wait to make it myself.

Materials needed:

Roll out the plastic wrap. Line up 25 candies in a row, 1 inch apart, and fold both sides of the plastic over the chocolate. Cut 26 pieces of ribbon (each about 6 inches long).Tie each piece of ribbon in a knot between the candies. Tie one larger ribbon at the top, and hang your calender from a doorknob or a hook. Each day starting December 1st, unwrap one of the candies and eat it while counting down the days to Christmas!

If this idea doesn’t sound right for you, here are a few more ideas:

untitled11.jpgI have another great link today: the Curious George website for the kids tv show. It has some fabulous printables, video clips, and lots of online games that are fun but still easy for younger kids. Banana 411, connect the dots, step-by-step instructions on how to draw George, a maze, a printable memory game, and more. My favorite activity is the mix and paint game, but don’t take my word for it, go try it out yourself!

Free Lego Fun for Kids

November 22, 2007 | 1 Comment

My little friend Isaac’s absolute favorite website is Lego.com, and I have to say I enjoy it myself. Its worth visiting just for all the fantastic games; Action games galore, Creative games (like Princess and Dollhouse), and even some great preschool games! I’m a Star Wars fan, so I highly recommend the Lego Star Wars page where you’ll find more games, some sweet Lego movies, and free downloads like desktop wallpapers and screensavers. And even if you don’t like Star Wars, you’re sure to find something fun - Bob the Builder, Bionicle, SpongeBob Squarpants, Dino Attack, Thomas and friends, and lots more!

Make Your Own Dollhouse

November 20, 2007 | 1 Comment

famf0200dollhouse_dolhslede.JPGI’ve never met a little girl who didn’t like a dollhouse, but the store bought plastic ones can be very expensive. So why not make your own? Making a dollhouse can be just as much fun as playing with it, and you can make a pretty snazzy one with materials you already have at home. Here is a link with some general instructions to get you started. My sister has been having a blast the past few days making a dollhouse like the one pictured. Here are the instructions, which areĀ  more detailed than the last ones.

teenyturkeys.jpgOne of my favorite parts about Thanksgiving I have to admit, is the food. So today I’m sharing a few recipes for some seasonal goodies. Try out these cute Thanksgiving treats that are just as much fun to make as they are to eat!

Oreo Cookie Turkeys - Turkeys made with oreos, peanut butter cups, candy corn, and malted milk balls. I remember making these adorable turkeys with my sisters when I was young, it’s definitely a favorite!

Pilgrim Hat Marshmallow Treats - Marshmallows dipped in chocolate to look like pilgrim hats.

Teeny Turkey Sandwiches - Little bite size sandwiches decorated with peppers, peas, cheese, pepperoni, and nuts, to look like turkeys.

pilgrim2.jpgI can’t believe it’s this close, but Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so get ready to have lots of holiday fun! Here are some easy Pilgrim and Indian crafts to get you started. All you need is a toilet paper roll, some crayons or markers, glue, and paper to print out the template.

This is a great way to teach kids why we celebrate this holiday. As you make these crafts you can tell kids the story of the first thanksgiving, and the kids will enjoy acting it out with their characters.
