Now that the kids are back in school, it’s helpful to know where they can get help with homework questions, research and writing and even study skills. There are more sites than ever before offering help to kids and parents. Here are 7 great ones:

PATH Pupils Ask Teachers Help - offers 100% FREE internet based solutions to help parents and students with homework or other school related questions. They offer online message boards (forums), to full website pages, to email support, to live chat with real teachers in almost every subject available.

Math.com - covers pre-algebra, algebra and geometry

FreeMathHelp.com - along with free math lessons including a bunch of video lessons, there is a worksheet generator and some math games

DiscoverySchool.com - huge list of homework helps, including resources to help with report writing and projects.

ProQuest K-12 - don’t miss the student success modules at this site, which provides a lot of information about how to organize, study and write well.

FactMonster Homework Center - lots of subjects covered here, and there’s a good section on study skills and note taking.

General Chemistry - great tutorials, a searchable common compound library and glossary, and even a chemistry exam survival guide and much more.

The National Eye Institute is a division of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and they are offering two free activity books for kids!

See All You Can See: Activity Book for Ages 6 to 8

Wild About Healthy Vision: Activity Book for Ages 9 to 12

They contain  pages of word puzzles, family surveys, projects and experiments, and more designed to help children learn about parts of the eye and how they work, as well as eye safety and first aid for eye injuries.

(I assume they will only ship to a US address)

Check out some of the cutest makeable toys I have ever seen! Readymech.com has a whole line of unusual “characters” to print and build. There are scary monsters, and cute animals, robots and space creatures. Each is designed to fit on an 8.5″x11″ page and printed with any printer. You’ll need double-sided tape, thick matte paper, and 10-15 minutes for build time.

Do your kids like Thomas the Train? My son has just gotten into it, so I’ve heard a lot recently about how to be a “really useful engine”. Speaking of really useful things- check out a really useful site called Time for Thomas. Among other things, like info on Thomas the Train lego sets and some paper train models, you’ll find there are some great printables coloring pages.

Free Crayola Fun for Kids

August 1, 2007 | Comments Off

crayolaHave you visited the Crayola website yet? There are tons of freebies here for hours of coloring and craft fun. You do have to register for access to some things, but after registering, you get access to over 900 craft ideas and over 1,000 activity and coloring pages. There’s a very nice digital coloring page, and some cute games including a “crazy vehicle maker” where you make your crazy vehicle and then you can print and color it! The site also has a card creator and a certificate maker. Definitely one of my favorite finds- thanks to Baby Cheapskate for pointing me to it.
